Davi Vetoraci de Menezes

Originally from Sepetiba, a small beach-side neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Davi Vetoraci de Menezes and his twin brother Matheus are two of the most exciting jiu-jitsu competitors in Europe. 

Davi and Matheus come from a deep jiu-jitsu background. When Davi began training at the age of three, his cousin Alexandre Carrera was an instructor and his father, Leonel Menezes, had already begun training as well. They encouraged the young boys to start training. As a child, Davi was also enrolled in CR Flamengo, a Brazilian youth multi-sports program, where he trained in both judo and rowing. 

It wasn’t until Davi and Matheus were purple belts, however, that they began to get serious about a career in jiu-jitsu. It was then that something switched in Davi’s mind: “When I became consistent in all aspects of my routine – training, physical preparation, drilling techniques, and nutrition. That consistency helped me build confidence in myself.” 

That consistency, combined with his champion mindset – which he describes as “the strong desire to win and knowing that you gave everything you had during the process” – paid off. He won several championships at brown, before receiving his black belt on the podium of the IBJJF Brasilieros from his cousin and his father. Shortly after that, Davi and Matheus moved to Portugal to pursue jiu-jitsu professionally.

  • IBJJF European Championship 3rd Place (Black Belt) – 2024
  • IBJJF European Championship Runner-Up (Purple Belt – Weight Division) – 2020
  • IBJJF European Championship 3rd Place (Purple Belt – Absolute Division) – 2020
  • IBJJF South American Champion (Brown Belt – Gi & No-Gi) – 2020

One piece of advice for beginners: The journey is tough, but it’s worth it. Stay focused, be consistent, and never lose the will to win.

While Davi is an exceptionally well-rounded jiu-jitsu practitioner, he is particularly known for his guard game. “My guard is very flexible and dynamic, and I have a wide range of attacks from there.” It’s his guard which has led to a number of high profile wins in which not a single point was scored on him.
