Icaro Moreno
Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Icaro Moreno’s family moved to the U.S. when he just three years old, where he began training jiu-jitsu and wrestling shortly after in Boston, Massachusetts. Since then, he has quickly risen to become one of the most decorated child athletes in the sport.
From a young age, Icaro demonstrated an incredibly promising athletic career, becoming a state champion in wrestling and, in 2019, winning his first IBJJF Pan Kids and European Championship. A few short years later, at just 10 years old, he decided to make the move to California to train at the world-renowned AOJ Academy.
Under the tutelage of Rafael Mendes, Guilherme Mendes, and Tainan Dalpra, Icaro’s career hit another gear. His dedication and talent as a competitor has driven him to become a multiple-time IBJJF Pans, European, American Nationals and Jiu-Jitsu Con champion. He has also showcased his game at major promotions like Fight 2 Win and Who’s Number One.

One piece of advice for beginners:

Part of Icaro’s success comes from his champion mindset: “It isn’t just about winning – it’s about how I face every challenge, how I get up after every fall, and how I believe in myself even when no one else does. A champion isn’t just the one who stands on the podium — a champion is the one who doesn’t quit, who gets better every single day, who honors their journey and inspires others through courage.”
Icaro considers himself to be a well-rounded athlete, demonstrating superior wrestling as well as an advanced guard game. According to Icaro, “I feel prepared to handle any situation in a match — I have tools for everything.”
